Spring Into Festival Season in Maine: Events By Maine County

Harbor Farm Wreaths25th Mar 2026

Spring Events in Maine 2026: Festivals, Outdoor Activities, and More...

Spring in Maine arrives on its own schedule, and it has never once apologized for that. Some years the mud outlasts the patience of everyone involved. But then one morning the light changes, and before you know it there are things to do on every weekend between now and Memorial Day.

We put together this guide to spring events and Maine activities happening county by county in 2026. Whether you're a year-rounder looking for something to do close to home, or you're planning a Maine vacation and want to time it around something worthwhile, there's a lot here to work with. These events run from late March all the way through the end of May, across 12 counties.

Androscoggin County

Auburn Logger Festival

| Festival Plaza, Auburn

Downtown Auburn's Festival Plaza hosts an afternoon of live music, local food and craft brews, with lobster as the centerpiece. Yes, lobster in central Maine. It started as an April Fool's joke by the city and took on a life of its own, which is a very Maine way for a tradition to get started. It's a genuinely fun afternoon and one of the more low-key Maine activities on this list. Learn more here.

Aroostook County

Fiddlers and Fiddleheads Festival

| Patten, ME

11:00 AM-3:00 PM

Fiddlers at the Fiddlers and Fiddleheads Festival in Maine

For a true taste of North Woods heritage, head to the Fiddlers and Fiddlehead Festival at the Patten Lumbermen’s Museum on May 16, 2026. This uniquely Maine celebration pairs the season's first harvest of wild-foraged fiddlehead ferns with the foot-stomping energy of live bluegrass and folk music. Between helpings of fresh-cooked greens and the "Cast Iron Chef" cook-off, visitors can explore the museum's sprawling grounds, witness vintage blacksmithing demonstrations, and browse local artisan crafts. It is a quintessential spring gathering that perfectly blends outdoor adventure, local history, and the soulful sounds of the fiddle—all set against the backdrop of Maine’s rich logging legacy.

Cumberland County

Portland CiderFeast

| Oxbow Blending & Bottling, Portland

Glass of cider on a table in Portland, Maine with a halved apple.

CiderFeast brings hard cider producers from Maine and across New England together at Oxbow Blending & Bottling on Washington Avenue in Portland. This is a 21+ event with a souvenir tasting glass included in the ticket. Portland has no shortage of things going on in spring, but this one draws a crowd for good reason. If craft beverages and local producers are your thing, it's worth building a Maine vacation weekend around it.

Franklin County

Maine Fiddlehead Festival

| University of Maine Farmington

10 a.m.–3 p.m.

Live Music Performance Maine Fiddlehead festival

Fiddleheads have about a two-week window each spring, which makes this festival genuinely seasonal in a way most events aren't. Held on the UMF campus, it brings together local farmers, food trucks, craft vendors, farm animals for the kids, and the Franklin County Fiddlers performing throughout the afternoon. If you want to understand what seasonal activities in Maine actually look like, this is a good place to start.

Hancock County

Wings, Waves & Woods Festival

| Deer Isle and Stonington

Puffins in spring on a rocky cliffside in coastal Maine

Island Heritage Trust runs this five-day birding festival on Deer Isle, and it has earned a reputation as one of the best in the country. Yankee Magazine listed it as an Editor's Choice event, and Maine Audubon has been a consistent supporter. Boat trips head out to Seal Island for up-close looks at Atlantic Puffins, Razorbills, and Northern Gannets. Guided walks through IHT preserves pick up dozens of warbler species during peak migration. Watercolor workshops, historical walks, and evening programs round it out. If you've been waiting for an excuse to finally drive over that bridge, this is it. One of the most genuinely unique events in Maine, and a natural anchor for a Spring Maine vacation Down East.

Kennebec County

Maine Culinary Festival

| Augusta Civic Center

9:00 am–4:00 pm

Two days at the Augusta Civic Center with dozens of Maine food and beverage vendors: artisan jam makers, cheesemakers, hot sauce producers, bakers, and more. Admission is $5, free for kids 12 and under, and live music runs through the weekend. This is one of the better Maine shopping opportunities of the spring, especially if you're into local and small-batch food products. You'll leave with more than you planned to buy.

Lincoln County

Spring Fling in Boothbay Harbor

| Boothbay Harbor

Boothbay Harbor before the summer crowds is a different town, and a really good one. The Spring Fling is a community shopping weekend with participating local businesses offering deals and extras throughout the two days, plus a $100 gift card giveaway. For Maine shopping without the August parking situation, April in Boothbay is hard to beat.

Oxford County

Lilac Festival

| McLaughlin Garden and Homestead, South Paris

10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Close up up Lilac blooms on a tree in Maine

McLaughlin Garden holds the largest collection of lilacs in Maine, with over 125 varieties across more than 200 trees. During the festival, guided tours with the resident horticulturist run daily at 11 a.m., with plant sales, workshops, a gift shop worth browsing, and live music throughout the weekend. A small admission donation gets you in. It's one of those spring Maine activities that's hard to put into words until you're standing in the middle of it at peak bloom.

Penobscot County

Maine Science Festival

| Bangor

Now in its 11th year, the Maine Science Festival has grown into one of the more impressive community events in the state. More than 70 free events spread across five days and multiple Bangor venues: hands-on workshops, film screenings, trivia nights, panel talks, and the 5 Minute Genius showcase at the Bangor Opera House, where Maine scientists each take five minutes to share their work. Topics this year range from quantum materials and thermal radiation to cheesemaking and soil science. Free admission, all ages, and genuinely one of the most unique events in Maine on any calendar.

Piscataquis County

Piscataquis River Race

| Guilford to Dover-Foxcroft

10:00 AM START

Race Registration:  7:30 AM - 9:30 AM

Canoers racing in the piscataquis river race in maine

The Kiwanis Club of Dover-Foxcroft has been running this race for over 50 years, and it has raised close to $400,000 for local charities over that time. The course covers roughly 9.5 miles of the Piscataquis River, starting at King Cummings Park in Guilford and finishing at Foxcroft Academy. There are 18 divisions, so it accommodates everyone from competitive paddlers to recreational canoeists out for a spring morning on the water. Registration runs $20 in advance or $30 on race day. Refreshments at the start and finish. A great example of the Maine activities that have quietly kept communities together for generations.

Sagadahoc County

Spring Music Festival

| Bowdoin

2 PM – 6 PM EDT (GMT-4)

A spring music celebration at Bowdoin College featuring Bowdoin Jazz Combos, Bowdoin Electro-Acoustic Ensemble, Beyond Borders Percussion Ensemble, and Student Bands from Bowdoin and Bates – Lilt and Call Doug. Check Bowdoin College's website closer to the date for more info on performers and venue details.

Washington County

Downeast Spring Birding Festival

| Cobscook Bay

The Cobscook Bay area has more habitat variety packed into a small stretch of coastline than almost anywhere on the East Coast: boreal forest, freshwater and saltwater marsh, tidal flats, bogs, and open headlands. The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife calls this one of the best birding festivals in the country, and Yankee Magazine has listed it as an Editor's Choice event. Boat trips go out to Machias Seal Island, home to the largest Atlantic Puffin colony on the Maine coast. Guided programs run through Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge, Roosevelt Campobello International Park, and Quoddy Head State Park. Lodging is available on-site at the Cobscook Institute campus. If seeing puffins in the wild is on your list, this is where you do it. One of the most rewarding unique events in Maine for anyone who loves being outside, and a worthy destination for a dedicated Maine vacation. Check out Cobscook Institute's website for more info.

York County

Earth Day Spring Festival

| Eliot

Eliot marks Earth Day with a community spring festival that brings people outside and together as the season gets going. A good reason to spend a Saturday in southern Maine.

It's underrated. Crowds are smaller, prices are lower, and you get to see the state the way people who live here actually experience it. There are strong events happening in almost every county from late March through May. Pack layers. The weather will do what it wants.

Spring doesn't wait around in Maine, and neither do these events. A few are happening this week, but the calendar runs through late May with something worth doing in almost every corner of the state. We hope you get out there.

From everyone at Harbor Farm, happy spring. The balsam is waking back up, and so are we.
