LOVELY DEER ISLE STONEWARE POTTERY

This pottery has its own style with a certain Scandinavian character. The lines are very clean and the glaze is on the inside of each piece but only down about half of the outside. This reveals the unglazed stoneware on the lower part and results in a peculiarly attractive appearance. It just isn't like other pottery. There are straight-sided pots like pencil holders or celery holders, perhaps kitchen tool holders. Bowls are similarly glazed, with the unglazed part toward the bottom on the outside. Sometimes they are dipped two or three times over parts of the pot, yielding segments in slightly different colors, but all very crisp and clean looking. The little jugs are very pleasingly shaped. We like this pottery a lot.
