Do You Know about Treen?

We didn't until recently. It seems that treen is an old word that fell from use for many years but is now back in use in the antique business and among people who like old things. It refers to small, useful household objects made of wood. Hence, treen, as from tree. The re-use of the word comes with the emergence of an industry to recreate the objects so classified. Some of these are, in fact, made of wood. But now some of them are being made of resin, which is, after all, tree sap. Indeed, it has its own special material properties which broaden its uses. The character of these pieces is interesting and attractive. Whatever their material, treen pieces comprise lots of nifty items at reasonable prices. Scoops of many kinds - there's a nice big one of metal and wood, just like one we have that's been in our family for many years - we keep it in the cracked corn crock. We have a scoop in each of the crocks of bird seed, dry dog food, dry cat food, and guinea pig pellets. There are a couple of nice resin scoops, copies of antique ones sometimes with simulated damage holes in them, with loop handles to permit their being hung up. There are little bowls, firkins in either wood or resin, wooden boxes with sliding tops. As is the case with many of our hooks, a useful object also becomes a decorative one, and certainly something that is pleasing to use.
