Our BG Series
HF’s BG Series tiles are hand made stoneware. They are in colors that, to us, are reminiscent of Etruscan art. They are generally muted, though they also come in bright greens and yellows. They are also generally matte finished, though they can have a clear glaze applied which gives them a certain soft shine. As the illustration shows, they are hand cut, and they frequently bear tool and finger marks.
They clad the wall from floor to ceiling behind our own RAIS wood burning stove. We used three different colors, with only a subtle difference between them, for the field tiles, and a buff color for the deer. The deer are dotted at random over the two walls, and are particularly nicely executed.
There are unique and appealing trims. Note the wave border and the shell corners of our own walls, and the acorn border on the color panel.
We also have a bathroom floor. We deliberately had the ones with tool marks installed in the middle of the floor where they could be part of the atmosphere -- a little in the way people used to prize paw prints in sun-dried terra cotta tiles. These tiles aren’t sun dried. They are fired at a little over 2200 F.
